CTiE Meeting

Notes 
1 GK – Ecumenical Coordinator for Churches Together in Surrey –
was introduced and invited to explain the organisation and the role.
As there are many local churches together groups it is difficult for
Churches Together in England to connect with all. Therefore
‘Intermediate Bodies’ (IBs) were developed to help with links and
connections.
GK has found about 30 CT Groups in Surrey in the 7 years she has
been in this role.
2 DP – was introduced and invited to share his observations
regarding safeguarding in churches in the area. He has a
background in education and is well placed to make observations.
Following recent events, it has come to light that people in need of
extra care may move from church to church and thus not receive a
continuity of care. DP suggested that this could be remedied
somewhat if the safeguarding officers from each church were able
to communicate with one another in confidence.
RH asked the reps to send contact details of the safeguarding
officers from their churches to him and he would then send them to
DP keeping a record.
This group is completely independent of any Diocesan
Safeguarding team. It is for local Churches Together in Epsom.

3 The new rep from St Paul’s and St Barnabas’s (PA) was welcomed.
He volunteered himself on discovering that the church had no such
rep.
4 Someone is considering filling the vacancy for a rep from Christ
Church though unable to attend tonight. EM to follow this up. EM
5 ROC – the funding for this has not been forthcoming and RH
suggested that perhaps it was not God’s timing as it seems to be
lacking God’s provision. He plans to apply for funding with his new
employers as the opportunity arises. (Nationwide has grants for
local projects.)
RH is also in touch with Gail Osbourne from Surrey County Council
regarding funding for community engagement.

6 Computer System that links charities with needs was developed in
Lincoln.
Following the success of this system in Lincoln with reducing
suicide rates in the area, the NHS trust gives the organisation 3
£1M to run the programme.
The meeting agreed that many churches have coffee spaces and
offer a variety of support and this system could help with
signposting people to the appropriate supplier. The system would
need to be customised for Epsom. RH agreed to look into the cost
and check that it could be bought by CTiE rather than each church
being required to purchase it individually.

Epsom and Ewell Hub on Friday mornings at St Barnabas offers a
variety of support – Cake, Debt advice, CAP, NESDA, Job Centre,
Food Bank, Benefit help…..
Epsom Baptist have a weekly Lunch Club on a Thursday with 20-25
people attending.
7 The script for Good Friday is written and people are learning their
lines. Feedback from 2025 has been noted in order to make
improvements.
More compact location resulting
More compact in terms of time
Problems regarding people being able to see should be fewer.
The playwright advised strongly against a stage.
8 All churches offering Alpha courses to notify RH ALL
9 GB is organising the prayer week for 17 – 23 May in the week
leading up to Pentecost. The prayer spaces should be inhabited by
individuals or prayer triplets.
Anyone who can offer a more accessible prayer space should
inform GB.
There is an option to sign up for praying for an hour from home.
It is likely to be each day from 7am to 9pm.
Churches have been invited to open up a prayer room.

10 There was some discussion about whether CTiE should get in
touch with Besom.

DA – Epsom Methodist- Holy Saturday Easter Praise
AC – St Clements – The setting up and running of a social café
CD – Epsom Christian Fellowship – Knit and Natter on Fridays
GB – Vineyard – Offering a Bereavement Course
PA – St Pauls and St Barnabus – The new vicar, Simon, is looking
to support the third age group, partly by organising intergenerational
activities.
MT – St Martin’’s – The Eco group have been praying about solar
panels and now have a grant from Surrey County Council
HH – Epsom Baptist - Children’s 3 day Easter Holiday Club.
KM – St Joseph’s – A service for people to renew their marriage
vows.
RHo– URC – Lent Course. Ask Roger to send the details to RH
EM – Christ Church – Art Exhibition. New vicar appointed who is
arriving at the end of the summer.
RH – Kings Church – Andy Frost’s sermons have been much
valued and he will be running a discipleship course.
PM – Potters House – It is good to be out on the streets telking
about Jesus.
